The Walther Cup is an annual friendly competition between the Summit Tennis Association and the New Providence Tennis Association. It was first organized in 2013, in honor of Dick Walther, who was a co-founder of both tennis associations. Dick passed away in May 2021 at the age of 98.

Matches are played in New Providence and Summit.
New Providence Courts: 1398 Springfield Ave, New Providence, NJ 07974
- Women’s Singles 8-9:30am;
- Women’s Doubles 9:30-11am**
Summit Memorial Courts: 5 Myrtle Ave, Summit, NJ 07901, parking lot: 74 Ashland Rd
- Men’s Singles 8-9:30 AM;
- Men’s Doubles 9:30-11**
- Mixed Doubles 12:30 – 2:30 PM

Provided: Food/Beverages/Balls:
The two clubs provide all the balls, granola bars, bananas, and individual Gatorades and waters by courtside. We serve lunch at Memorial field, after the morning matches conclude.
Match Format: Gendered Singles, Gendered Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
- Singles: Play 1 pro-set: first to 8 games wins, must win by 2.
- If tied at 8-8, play a 10-pt tiebreaker. Ball dies at 9:30.
- Doubles: Matches will be the best 2 out of 3 sets, the 3rd set is a 10-pt tiebreaker
- Each set is a standard 6-game set. Set tiebreaks are 7 pts.
- If sets are split, play the third set match tiebreaker to 10 pts, must win by two.
What is provided?
- Food/Beverages/Balls: The two clubs provide all the balls, granola bars, bananas, and individual Gatorades and waters by courtside.
- Lunch is served at Memorial field, after the morning matches conclude at each of the two locations. (Feel free to bring your lunch, if you prefer to eat between gendered doubles and mixed doubles. )
